Behind the scenes with Frankie Gordils
Ya gotta love the dancers. They just move, and have a real understanding of their bodies, their angles and sense of space.
Frankie Gordils was one of the very few models who wanted to meet me before our photo shoot. I really don’t mind hanging out at Starbucks Coffee and nursing a Shaken Iced Tea Lemonade while brainstorming and getting to know new people. Will and I met Frankie and his girlfriend at our usual Starbucks Coffee on the corner of 52nd Street and 8th Avenue on a Sunday afternoon. It was a great meeting, and I knew that our photo shoot 3 days later would be a blast.
On Wednesday morning, Frankie showed up to set wearing his first look. Although I was amused, I told him that it probably was a bad idea. We shot a few looks in-studio, and then headed down to the end of 155th Street where we found an awesome flatbed truck that we clearly had no business goofing off on. That didn’t stop Frankie, who danced on top of it and then jumped off of it, over and over and over.
Our last shot of the day was on a bridge where once again, he danced and danced and danced.
This shoot truly felt like a collaboration, because Frankie had very specific mid-air poses he wanted me to capture. I think we did all right.
Any more dancers out there?
